This text rambles on a bit, sorry. Don't read if you don't have plenty of time
to waste...

------=--=--=-=-=-=-==-==-==-=================-==-==-==-=-=-=-=--=--=--=-------
Here are some snaps of my WB, seeing as the first WBScreens drawer looked a little
sparse. Skip all this boring stuff for things about my pooter and organisation
(TACsoft). They were grabbed with PPaint.
MyWB.1.png
""""""""""
This is a nice 256 colour WB. I usually use 16 or 32 colour screens, but use 256
colours for apps on WB or browsers etc. Also good for impressing PeeCee owners.
MyWB.2.png
""""""""""
This is how I usually have my WB - nice and fast opening windows etc.
The hacks / improvments / otherprogs I am using are:
+ Birdie - nice window borders (MyWB.1.png) and borderless icons etc.
+ NewIcons - brilliant icon system, cool looking icons whatever your palette
and non-NI fans don't have to see them (unlike a certain others,
not mentioning any names...;)
+ PowerWB - that's the extra buttons in top right of windows, which are show
all files and toggle names/icons. It also replaces menu functions
with keystrokes, eg 'Del', and 'Help' for file info. This is
an indespensible tool.
+ Garshneblanker - okay screen blanker, not very efficient and a bit buggy. Lots of
nice blanker modules though
+ ToolsDaemon - cool util to launch programs from WB menus, except I have ended up
with hundreds of stuff.
+ Arq - very nice requester replacement
+ WBInfo - great Workbench 'info' replacement with only one flaw - MUI
+ MagicMenu - pop-up menus and keyboard support
+ TitleClock - I'm not a great clock fan, but it's tucked away and only uses 4Kb
+ FBlit - hack putting all screen, window graphics etc in fast mem -
giving a speed increase and saving chipmem! Hmmm...nice
+ HappyEnv - saves memory by replacing ENV:, usually on the ram disk.
+ Copper-Demon - gives WB a customizable copper-rainbow type thing (can't be seen
in grabbed screens) which looks wacky if somewhat annoying
(I only use it occasionally, as it slows down screen dragging
and chipmem access slightly)
+ MagicTV - brilliant software flickerfixer which I only used for a short time
(got decent monitor). Makes flicker on 16-colour or less NTSC
interlaced screens imperceptible and greatly reduces PAL flicker.
Also 'softens' the image - sort of blurring, but generally makes
it look better!
+ KingCon - replacement CLI, giving proper windows with menus and drag-and-drop
plus the ability to scroll up through everything since the shell was
opened and it can complete filenames for you if you type a few
letters and press TAB. Nice.
With all this it is perfectly stable (nothing interfering with each other, I guess)
except that FBlit often leaves a small blue blob next to the filename when viewing
them as name or whatever. However, as the authour says, It is a hack which will
'probably crash your computer'. It hasn't yet.
You can use the pics and I use if you like, but not the sounds, as they are all grabbed
from Quake, Big Red Racing and Father Ted. He Hey!
Pics:
+ 'TACsoft_Clouds.iff' - 724*482 ILBM image - this is taken from the 800*600*24 original,
and scaled down in PPaint, remapping (F/S best quality and colour
average resize, naturally!) to the default 256 colours that
Workbench uses, and removing those not used giving a 128col image
NOTE: this picture is included in it's original 24bit format in
my gallery section, so you can adapt it to your WB if you like.
+ 'C&DLogo.iff' - 77*40 ILBM image - this is just a little pic from a game started
by TACsoft, but abandoned twice. Looks quite nice with no borders
on icons.
+ 'TAClogo.iff' - 353*180 ILBM image - Just another TACsoft logo, looks nice on low
colour screens.
+ 'GW2K.iff' - This isn't included, sorry. It's the Eric Schwartz one of the 'Its
good news...they tell me' miggy. It's not supplied because of
copyright reasons, as I have monkeyed around with it (changed
resolution and colours etc). It's on AmiNet and a past CUCD (I think)
I can't remember what the window border texture was, it is one of the original ones with
Birdie.
WB settings:
Screenmode: NTSC: High-Res Laced 724*482 (full overscan)
Fonts:
Default: 2002/16 (dodgy futuristic font; see MyWB.2.png)
Screen: Helvetica/11
Icon: Helvetica/9
Screenmodes I use:
NTSC - Nice
PAL - Hires-laced is too squished and 50Hz is annoying
Euro36 - Hmmm...73Hz refresh rate
Euro72 - Nice, but squished. \
DblPAL - Looks horizontally squished >-- Way too slow in 256 colours
DblNTSC - Ditto /
MULTISCAN - Looks really squished on my monitor; resolution too low
VGAonly enabled
My Miggy
""""""""
I now have:
* A1200:
+ Apollo 1240 accelerator (40MHz) + 16Mb
+ EZ-IDE splitter/buffercard thingy
- 540Mb IDE HD
- 4x IDE CD
+ Scandoubler + Flickerfixer
+ 15in SVGA monitor
+ Speakers (Must remember to sue company. Calls them multimedia - only does sound!)
+ Epson Stylus 600 colour inkjet
* A500
+ 3Mb 'fast' mem
+ Slimline-desktop style case
+ 20Mb HD
+ C= 1084s monitor
The A1200 is literally next to bursting (big gaps opening up around edges) due to all this
stuff inside. Tower next, methinks...
I haven't used the A500 in a long time (It's getting quite a nostalgic experience),
but now I have a SVGA monitor I can use my old monitor on it and link them up via
ProNet.
Software
""""""""
This is mostly new stuff, I also have quite a few old games and utils (100's of coverdisks)
* Games
+ Myst - really absorbing with an intricate plot and tricky but always head bangingly
logical (when you get it) puzzles
+ Shadow of the Third Moon - haven't had this for long, but the action is frantic,
graphics brilliant, music excellent etc. Some levels really hard though.
+ The Settlers - probably my all-time favourite game! Really in-depth gameplay,
nice graphics and good (if annoying after a few hours) music. Incredibly
well programmed also.
+ Dune II - pretty good, but for some reason I got to the last level (Harkonnen) and got
half way through, and haven't played it since.
+ Lemmings - need I say more?
* Serious
+ Cinema 4D - (from CU Amiga giveaway) really easy to use, and I never knew rendering
could be so speedy even on a humble 040 (for example, the backdrop in
'MyWB.1.png' was rendered in about 25 mins at 800*600 truecolour.
+ PPaint 7 - (from AF giveaway) fast and feature packed
+ Wordworth 7 - (actually bought!) - really easy to use and speedy. Much better than
MS word in useful features stakes, even completely ignoring user
friendliness, speed, efficiency, dictionary (WW7 has a proper english
one with every word I throw at it in - even place names, chemical names
etc.
+ Blitz Basic 2 - (actually bought also!) - speedy enough for most things (it is compiled)
and includes an assembler, allows you to do anything you can in C, sometimes
even easier!
+ DPaint - old but still useable
+ ProPage - (from CU Amiga) - very good for posters, leaflets etc.

I am 16, program in Blitz 2 & some ASM, do some graphics stuff in PPaint (I'm no
good at 2D art though, but I can draw detailed things, like those I did for C&D - our
ripoff of C&C) and some 3D things. Hopefully I will send in some animations (mostly
space, but not the usual laser zapping futuristic stuff)
